The district also extends to newer landmarks like Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay that was opened in 2002.  Close by is the Bras Basah.Bugis precinct with its cluster of art museums and galleries – National Museum of Singapore, Singapore Art Museum, Peranakan Museum and the National Design Centre – as well as the National Library.
